Courtney Shanade Salter, also known as Ari Lennox, a Washington, D.C.-based American singer/songwriter, was signed by the label's the first artist of female gender for Dreamville Records by J. Cole. The first single, Pho which was released on 21 October 2016 was released on Dreamville Records. Her career began to grow in recognition. Shea Butter Baby is her debut album. The album was released on May 19, 2019. Ari Lennox first posted songs online in the year 2012. The singer released her debut album Ariography and debut mixtape in 2013, Five Finger Discount. The year 2014 saw her release additional music on the internet including Bound. The song was included in Omen's Elephant Eyes and on Sweat It Out on the 21st of July, 2015. J. Cole had her send her songs for the Dreamville Team later in the year as he wanted Rihanna to work together on a few references. On December 8 that she had signed with Dreamville Records. Backseat is a song that she co-wrote with Cozz on the album collaboratively titled Revenge of the Dreamers II. The 21st of October, 2016, the artist released her debut album entitled Pho. Ari Lennox performed the song Change by J. Cole as well as being an opener on the 4 Your Eyez Only Tour 2017 in which she was joined by EarthGang. In 2018, she appeared as a guest on two tracks, including EarthGang's Nothing but the Best song as well as Bas's Icarus. Ari Lennox dropped her first track Whipped Cream off of Shea Butter Baby on July 16. The music video was then followed by a short video in September. Her second single, Grampa on November 9. In November, 13, she released two additional singles titled No One or Pdigree. She then appeared on the Creed II soundtrack with Cole on the track Shea Butter Baby on November 16, and it was released as a single in February 2019 for her debut album of the same title. On February 20, 2019, a music video was released to promote the song. It has already received nearly three million hits on YouTube within the initial week. She supported 6LACK's From East Atlanta With Love Tour at the end of December 2018.
